Yep, I can't even recall how many writings and speeches I've given encouraging people to resist being labelled "consumers". And, if there's ever been a time to become an active citizen it is now. Our economy is fundamentally flawed and brutal and the billionaire elites are now destroying things so as to seize more control over world resources. Here's a piece I wrote about this a while back --https://cylviahayes.substack.com/p/our-broken-and-brutal-economy. My hope is that as all this cracks and fails we will have chances to build a much saner society moving forward. I know it will be a helluva bumpy ride but I maintain hope and vision. Love you my friend!

I really loved this framing! It's quite complementary to what I write about. Expect to see this referenced soon, perhaps in my next post- a three-part series describing my decision making hierarchy for sustainable personal finance: people first, then money, then planet.

As I see it, the higher one can comfortably and safely climb the pyramid, the more ability and obligation one has to consider the climatological and ecological effects of consumption.

As for me, I hate that I have to be a consumer of ANYTHING, but I am, so along with the grocery shopping, some self-compassion is necessary. I try to focus more on my role as partner/wife, daughter, human friend, animal friend, neighbor, gardener, volunteer.

I come to Substack for relief and I find people like you & everyone in the comments. 😍 No substitute for face-to-face, but not bad either!
