Thank you for this comprehensive and thoughtful survey. I am new to your work. I do not understand the degree of separation that you claim for these different lenses. While there are some aspects of some of these lenses that conflict with each other, why would we expect something as complex as “breaking the world” to be comprehensible through one lens only. Thermodynamics, values and institutional arrangements all have their role to play in explaining the causes and supporting the creation of multi-dimensional solutions. (Personal declaration - my focus is on the use of spiritual/religious values to inspire policies that limit over-consumption.)

Thanks for this Nate. I like the analysis, but to me the real worth of this analysis is that it brings humanity closer together. We are all trying to find solutions to the challenges the world is facing. We all care about a better future for ourselves, our loved ones and our communities (though the size of these communities can vary significantly). We are all worried and want to find answers.

Perhaps it is in this mutual concern that we can find our common humanity, understand each other better and move away from the polarisation that is making it impossible to develop the right solutions. We all want the same things, to create a better future, but we disagree on how we get there. Understanding that we are looking at the world through different lenses might be the start to us coming together to deliver practical solutions.
