What I'm hearing in Chris' rather arrogant dismissal of rewilding/back-to-Nature is basically this:
"I was on the reasonable path towards rewilding until I realized that there's suffering and death in Nature and, unwilling/unable to accept that (and the fact that the human animal is subject to the same - admittedly sometimes cruel - laws as every other living being), I turned to justifying & perpetuating an ecocidal system that strives to separate humans from the rest of the community of life."
Not really the conclusion we need, given the evolutionary & ecological context in which we humans evolved. We are a part of Nature, whether we like it or not.
Loved the Indic Mind interview on the Metacrisis… would love the post mortem … to put it wrongly. What key concepts did we hear… I was stretching to follow what I will call the spiritual or esoteric parts of their vision, drive, perspective, voice and in lay language kindly translate. Big Cheers, love this ‘show’.
The starting point of the metacrisis is the mind that is considering it.
“The metacrisis begins within, moves into the relational field, and manifests in the world.
“The metacrisis is not a unique or urgent event.”
In other words, the solution is psychological. We have arrived at this crisis because of behavior inconsistent with the whole of life and the biosphere.
All of our supposed solutions continue to ignore this fundamental truth, and perpetuate the bad behavior that created the metacrisis. That's why eg 'renewable energy' is not a solution to the metacrisis. It might be ONE of (many) responses but the core disconnect is one of humans from nature - I think thats what these 3 humans were trying to say - and something I largely agree with.
I get that. That puts it nicely together. How we achieve reunion with our inner most nature of love and even oneness I do not know, but their passion and insights are engaging and hopeful. Thank you.

Nate & Team,

Very thoughtful piece. Especially contemplating what is really of value, restful, productive versus hamster wheel. Thank you.
