Thank you so much. Perfect timing. I suddenly realized this deep sorrow for our planet and society that I’ve been feeling these 2 months is grief. This helped me so much. I’m going to take this to others.
This conversation was beautiful and so needed. I have known that I want to bring grief work into future community projects, and this cemented its importance as well as provided me a wonderful resource in Francis. Thank you both!
What a gift and privilege, to be able to hear these words, without having to travel thousands of miles or pay a single cent. Deep gratitude sent for this amazing episode.
After this and the other recent episodes related to human psychology and sociology, as well as Riane Eisler's most recent book, it had me thinking about the various independent news outlets I follow and how they are calling out the Left for lacking a coherent message that appeals to more people. I think the problem that's leading to the rise of extremism on the Right is deeper, and relates to what Weller spoke about here. The Left (I recognize I'm generalizing here) in large part worships rationality above all else, and keeps misunderstanding that humans need more than that. Extremism, with its fervor and harnessing of people's deeper feelings, provides an outlet for that need. If we keep abdicating these deep, very human needs for something more, insisting that Rationality is all that's required, people are going to continue to be drawn in to extremes since it acknowledges and validates their feelings of fear, anger, repulsion, and hatred. The question is how do we overcome that without resorting to the same tactics of manipulation and propaganda? How do you fight the Good Fight with integrity? I'm grateful that TGS is here to help piece together what effective strategies for "making the world a better place" might be.
I've had Wild Edge of Sorrow for about three years, but haven't yet read it. But it is at the top of my list of grief resources that I share with people who are searching for ways to cope with loss. I'll share that here in case it helps anyone else:
I appreciated this conversation, as I've been feeling so heavy with grief for the world on top of the loss of my grandfather in late November. Thank you!

Excellent conversation. Thank you Nate. Sharing this and listening to the episode again.
I’ve been waiting for this one. Thank you, Nate.
I know it is trendy, but I prefer real pictures and not AI generated ones. Just a thought.
